The board is short, which my 14 year old son wanted, and so I thought that's why so light. It feels like the lightest piece of Styrofoam. I spent same amount if money in this as I did a different board for my daughter and the quality just seems to far pale in comparison. I'm not a surfer so maybe ultra light is normal and good. However, that aside, nearly all of the decal color and design on the board rubbed off after about two days of surfing! Says it's made in China on the packaging and it certainly seems like a "cheap" product, though the money doesn't tell me so.
